Noon sun is the absolute worst.  Seriously, ask any photographer and they will agree.  You will ALMOST never find me shooting midday unless I have to… or unless the cutest family asks last minute and it just so happens to be beautifully cloudy.  I sincerely believe that clouds are diffusers from Heaven.

The Barnes family was fortunate enough to have clouds and a sleepy town to shoot in.  We photographed their session on Memorial Day, and while all of Bryn Mawr was nursing a holiday hangover, we were gallivanting around this historic town.  With  posing in front of the old movie theater, crossing the walk in Beetles fashion, and all around laughs and giggles, this shoot is not one I will easily forget. Philadelphia Lifestyle Newborn Photography | William

As many of you know, I usually do not photograph newborn.  Ever.  At all.  So it may be surprising to see sweet baby William splashed across this blog today.  I’ve done a lot of thinking about newborn photography: what I like about it, what I don’t like about it, what I feel it should capture.  I searched through images and took not of the ones I was attracted to.  Then I began questioning why I was trying to fit my style into a box that it wasn’t meant to be in.  I can’t do posed newborn sessions.  I have no interest in it and I have no patience for it.  I have enormous respect for the Rachel Vanoven’s and Little Pieces photographers of this world.  They seem to become one with the baby and can pose them into any squishy mold their hearts desire.  But that just isn’t my style.  I like real, authentic moments.  This is reflected in all of my photography, from weddings, to families, to seniors.  Give me a real smile, and I’ll pin a blue ribbon on it.
