Phoenixville Brewery Engagement Session | Carli + Jack | Philadelphia Engagement Photography

couple engagement session at roots down brewing company in Phoenixville PA

An ice cold beer, beautiful sunlight, and the most beautiful summer evening helped make Carli and Jack’s engagement session one of my favorites.  we started our evening at Roots Down Brewing Company in Phoenixville, PA, before hopping over to Valley Forge park to catch the sunset.  Roots Down let us roam free in the brewery, which happens to be an atmosphere I’ve never shot in before.  Carli and Jack toasted to their love, which is just about the cutest thing ever.  Jack always knows how to make Carli truly smile, and Carli always knows exactly how I want her to pose with Jack- except it’s not a pose for them- it’s natural.

After the brews were downed, we found ourselves strolling through sun kissed fields at Valley Forge Park.  A quick stop at my favorite abandoned green house and “hobbit door”, and it was a wrap.  I am so excited for this wedding next year!  It seems like a lifetime away, but I know it’ll be here before we know it.

Danville’s Pine Barn Inn Wedding Photography | Kelly and Josh | Allie Skylar Photography

As the rain cleared over Bloomsburg, Kelly and Josh saw each other for the first time along the banks of the Susquehanna river.  The overcast skies painted the lush landscape in vibrant greens and yellows.  But if I had to guess, I would say that Kelly and Josh saw only each other.  Despite the morning rain, we were greeted with the most amazing evening sunlight, which cast the warmest glow as Kelly and Josh took a spin through the grounds at Pine Barn Inn.  Their infectious laughter and kindness remind me of why I love being a wedding photographer.  I’ve loved their story from the start, and can’t wait to see the next chapter.

This beautiful mid-August wedding was filled with laughter and love, and some pretty amazing dance moves.  Elizabeth and I even busted a few moves (no evidence, as it isn’t something that should be remembered).  I can’t wait to send off this gallery and video soon!  In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite photos 🙂  Continue reading “Danville’s Pine Barn Inn Wedding Photography | Kelly and Josh | Allie Skylar Photography”

Encouragement Small Business Owners Need to Hear | Wedding Photography

UK landscape photography_1732

Small business. Yeesh it’s a doozy. Today, I plan on encouraging as many of my fellow entrepreneurs as possible because a fellow photographer reached out and gave me the encouragement that I needed during this extremely busy and stressful week.

“Small business ins’t for the faint of heart. It’s for the brave, the patient,, and the persistent. It’s for the overcomer.” – Unknown

Everything – EVERY LITTLE THING- that you are doing day in and day out, every mundane task, every nerve-wracking meeting, every time you put your creative best out there, you are doing something braver than many others would dare. You aren’t afraid except of being afraid! Afraid to try, afraid to explore, afraid to create, afraid to overcome. You are doing enough, and unfortunately, small business has a way of making you feel like you aren’t.

Keep fighting the uphill battle because to create, it’s one of the best gifts we can give ourselves.  Keep chugging along because settling with the “what if” is not an option.  Keep picking yourself up because your vision— it is valuable!

Today is Thursday, Encourage someone. They just may need it more than you can imagine!

How to Find a Professional Wedding Photographer | Allie Skylar Photography | Philadelphia and Destination Weddings

Okay, listen up, brides (and grooms, but usually brides are the ones weeding through the internet for everything involving the wedding…)- there are a lot- A LOT- of wedding photographers out there.  There are so many amazing ones who will definitely take care of you and love you and give you everything you have ever dreamed of.  And I love them.  And I hope I am seen as one of them.  Then, sadly, there are “jump ship photographers”–People with nice cameras who charge next to nothing and offer the world.  Except their world is more like a blue bouncy ball with green splotches on it… and the green splotches are really just the gunk that sticks to the edges of the lawn mower.  POINT IS- not every ‘photographer’ is, or should be, a photographer.  These jump ship photographers come into the industry for a year or two, rip off some people, undercut the industry, and then realize they hate it/ can’t do it, and they leave.

So what in the blue bouncy ball world sets a pro apart from a wannabe?  Many many things.  And listen, let me be up front and say that I am NOT the right photographer for everyone.  It could be my pricing, my style, my love of all things Harry Potter, or my ridiculously good fashion.  This, I have come to learn, is a good thing.  In the beginning, I felt like I had to book every single person who sent me an email.  I took it personally when people would move on or pick someone else.  Now I see it as fate- maybe we wouldn’t have gotten along.  Maybe I would not have made them happy.  Maybe they would not have made ME happy (it is a two way street…).  So if you already know I’m not your cup of tea, awesome.  Move on and good luck!  But for those of you who wish to learn what I feel sets a pro apart from a wannabe, read on, my friend.
