As the rain cleared over Bloomsburg, Kelly and Josh saw each other for the first time along the banks of the Susquehanna river.  The overcast skies painted the lush landscape in vibrant greens and yellows.  But if I had to guess, I would say that Kelly and Josh saw only each other.  Despite the morning rain, we were greeted with the most amazing evening sunlight, which cast the warmest glow as Kelly and Josh took a spin through the grounds at Pine Barn Inn.  Their infectious laughter and kindness remind me of why I love being a wedding photographer.  I’ve loved their story from the start, and can’t wait to see the next chapter.

This beautiful mid-August wedding was filled with laughter and love, and some pretty amazing dance moves.  Elizabeth and I even busted a few moves (no evidence, as it isn’t something that should be remembered).  I can’t wait to send off this gallery and video soon!  In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite photos 🙂  Continue reading “Danville’s Pine Barn Inn Wedding Photography | Kelly and Josh | Allie Skylar Photography”

Bloomsburg Barn at Boone’s Dam Wedding | Meg and Joey | Pennsylvania Wedding Photographer

We met for pizza to discuss wedding photography and we photographed their engagement session at the Creamery at Penn State.  Meg and Joey are fun spirited, head over heels for each other, and know how to treat everyone around them to some really good food!  Their Barn at Boone’s Dam wedding featured make your own pasta, a pretzel and cheese steak bar, a Rita’s cart, and a cookie bar…..oh, and also the cutest couple I ever did see!

Despite a day that surprised us with a mixture of rain and clouds, I can’t imagine a couple more excited to get married!  Throughout the day, they danced in the rain, kissed under an umbrella, and strolled through the lush garden at The Barn.  I f”ell in like” with these two over that first slice of pizza, but watching them enjoy every crazy second of their wedding day, breath in the fresh air, and be in the moment, made me fall head over heels in love with them.

I’m so excited that I will be sending this gallery off soon!  Congratulations Meg and Joey! Continue reading “Bloomsburg Barn at Boone’s Dam Wedding | Meg and Joey | Pennsylvania Wedding Photographer”

Rustic Bloomsburg Engagement Photography | Breanne and Taylor | Allie Skylar Photography

There’s an area in my hometown of Bloomsburg back behind the mall that has a road called Dahl Road.  Growing up, I knew a few people who lived on that street, and I remember their houses hosting the most interesting property.  Lakes and woods and old barns.  Coupled with the fact that the name of the street itself rustled up thoughts of one of my favorite authors, Roald Dahl, I imagined that growing up on secluded Dahl road was a recipe for an exciting childhood.  When Breanne and Taylor were planning for their engagement session, they asked if we could shoot at Brianne’s parent’s house, located on the one and only, Dahl Road.

As I pulled up, I was greeted by a very friendly black cat, blooming flowers, and a quiet lake.  That evening, we hopped some creeks, danced in the golden sunset, and Breanne and Taylor made cuddling in a leaky row boat look incredibly dreamy.  We even had a chance to capture their personalities with some off beat photos. I am so excited for their wedding next year, water slides and all! Continue reading “Rustic Bloomsburg Engagement Photography | Breanne and Taylor | Allie Skylar Photography”

Upper Merion Christ Church Wedding | Clair and Philip | Philadelphia Wedding Photography

Clair and Philip are pure joy.  From the minute our day began, they radiated.  Clair and Philip had their ceremony and reception at the historic Christ Church in Upper Merion.  It’s a hidden gem located in Bridgeport, with the highway suspended in the air nearby.  The old sanctuary has a warm glow and well worn pews which creak as curious heads turn to watch the bride.  The reception hall is a blank canvass.  Clair and Philip, with the help of their families, opted for a DIY wedding, and their romantic and airy theme was perfect for this hall.

If I am being honest, I cry at every wedding.  And it’s not pretty.  How can I help it, though?  Weddings are BEAUTIFUL.  A true celebration of life and love and family.  I usually spend a year communicating with my couples.  I discover their favorite TV shows, how many pets they have, and the fears and excitements about getting married.  And then I witness their hard work pay off on their wedding day.  It’s hard not to be invested.

However, I have never cried more at a wedding than at Philip and Clair’s in July.  The tears started flowing the moment Clair and her father shared a first look, continued through Clair’s perfectly timed grand entrance, and into the night as the couple slow danced with stars in their eyes.

As a vendor, I must say that I am biased in thinking that I have the best couples ever.  But it’s hard not to believe that when they treat you with such love and warmth.  Clair and Philip, it was a joy and an honor to be a part of your day.  Wishing you the very best in your lifetime of happiness! Wedding Photography Tips : How to Organize Your Clients and Your Business

I am not organized.  Let me repeat that : I am not organized.  My work space is cluttered, my closet is…. well, don’t open it, and my receipts stay tucked in a box until tax season.  It takes a lot of work for me to be organized, but I know it is a priority.  My clients need to count on me, they need to know that I have information they have given me.  Not only that, they need to know that I know what information to ask them!  ]

Until recently, I as wasting a lot of time sending emails asking for information, then follow up emails asking for more information, etc.  It can be exhausting with so many clients, and I was tired of it.  I started making fillable PDF’s for different topics, and not only do I love it, so do my clients.  It helps me keep everything sorted (plus, I can send the file to my second shooter— bonus!), it instills confidence in my clients, and it leads to a better overall flow on a wedding day.

To all of my fellow photographers out there, don’t reinvent the wheel each time you send out an email.  Here are a few pages from the PDF I send out about 6 weeks before the wedding day.  Hope this helps someone!  Click below to see:
