Rustic Bloomsburg Engagement Photography | Breanne and Taylor | Allie Skylar Photography

There’s an area in my hometown of Bloomsburg back behind the mall that has a road called Dahl Road.  Growing up, I knew a few people who lived on that street, and I remember their houses hosting the most interesting property.  Lakes and woods and old barns.  Coupled with the fact that the name of the street itself rustled up thoughts of one of my favorite authors, Roald Dahl, I imagined that growing up on secluded Dahl road was a recipe for an exciting childhood.  When Breanne and Taylor were planning for their engagement session, they asked if we could shoot at Brianne’s parent’s house, located on the one and only, Dahl Road.

As I pulled up, I was greeted by a very friendly black cat, blooming flowers, and a quiet lake.  That evening, we hopped some creeks, danced in the golden sunset, and Breanne and Taylor made cuddling in a leaky row boat look incredibly dreamy.  We even had a chance to capture their personalities with some off beat photos. I am so excited for their wedding next year, water slides and all! Continue reading “Rustic Bloomsburg Engagement Photography | Breanne and Taylor | Allie Skylar Photography”

Upper Merion Christ Church Wedding | Clair and Philip | Philadelphia Wedding Photography

Clair and Philip are pure joy.  From the minute our day began, they radiated.  Clair and Philip had their ceremony and reception at the historic Christ Church in Upper Merion.  It’s a hidden gem located in Bridgeport, with the highway suspended in the air nearby.  The old sanctuary has a warm glow and well worn pews which creak as curious heads turn to watch the bride.  The reception hall is a blank canvass.  Clair and Philip, with the help of their families, opted for a DIY wedding, and their romantic and airy theme was perfect for this hall.

If I am being honest, I cry at every wedding.  And it’s not pretty.  How can I help it, though?  Weddings are BEAUTIFUL.  A true celebration of life and love and family.  I usually spend a year communicating with my couples.  I discover their favorite TV shows, how many pets they have, and the fears and excitements about getting married.  And then I witness their hard work pay off on their wedding day.  It’s hard not to be invested.

However, I have never cried more at a wedding than at Philip and Clair’s in July.  The tears started flowing the moment Clair and her father shared a first look, continued through Clair’s perfectly timed grand entrance, and into the night as the couple slow danced with stars in their eyes.

As a vendor, I must say that I am biased in thinking that I have the best couples ever.  But it’s hard not to believe that when they treat you with such love and warmth.  Clair and Philip, it was a joy and an honor to be a part of your day.  Wishing you the very best in your lifetime of happiness! Philadelphia Children’s Photography | Grant’s 6 Months | Allie Skylar Photography

In the blink of an eye, half a year has come and gone.  I remember the day Grant was born, visiting him in the hospital and photographing his Fresh 48.  Now, months later, his outgoing personality and curly faux hawk bring nothing but joy. The faces this baby makes are some of the most expressive I have seen from a babe his age.  Such an incredible joy to be around.  I cannot get enough snuggles!

Bloomsburg Senior Photograph | Jenna | Columbia County Christian School

I loved growing up in a small town.  After school, my friends and I would walk to the local emporium and buy bottle cokes and play cards.  Summers were spent in un-airconditioned houses, windows open wide, with the pungent smell of fresh cut grass wafting through the screens.  Ask anyone who grew up in a small town– my small town– and they will tell you the same stories.  Yeah it wasn’t all fun and games, and small towns have as many drawbacks as big cities.  But it was a different time, a distant life, and a crucial influence.

Bloomsburg is quite different, growing and changing just as I have in the 9 years since I left.  I am drawn back monthly with weddings or photo-shoots, and I feel so confident shooting there.  I know all the secret spots!  Plus, I’m not afraid of using someone’s walkway and getting yelled at.

Last weekend, I was home for a wedding and several shoots, one of them being Jenna’s Senior Session.  Columbia County Christian School Class of 2017!!!  Can you believe it?  10 years my junior!  And I;m not sure what it is, but high school kids are so much cooler today!  Where is that awkward phase the early/mid millennials suffered through?  I mean… I’m glad I don’t have photos from my mid teen years…..

Jenna is blessed with poise and grace and the most amazing smile!  We traveled all through town, hitting some of my favorite spots, then headed to the hills at the edge of town.  We watched the sun set as we laughed and chatted and filled in life stories.  Jenna has big dreams of being a NICU nurse, a job I could never have the strength to do!  She’s going to make differences in so many lives!

Congrats, Jenna! Continue reading “Bloomsburg Senior Photograph | Jenna | Columbia County Christian School”

Self Portrait Project | Week 19 |Avalon, NJ

Tomorrow is the first day of February, and as is custom, my cabin fever has set in.  Several times this week I have found myself searching for flights to anywhere- Calgary, San Francisco, Florida.  I hate sitting in one place for too long and winter always seems to force me indoors.  Add to that short days and chilly nights, and my cabin fever is at an all time high.
